Kitchen Essentials
Maybe this is something that I should have mentioned before now, but I thought it would be helpful if I told you about the general kitchen appliance that we will use on a regular basis. I do have a bit more than one pot and one knife, here is my list:
Pots – I have 3 pots of varying size, but basically, small, medium, and large
Pan – I have one sauté that I use for everything
Grill – I use a George Forman Grill Machine, but another great suggestion would be a cast iron grill pan that goes on top of you burners
Toaster
Microwave
Blender
French Press – as a coffee maker
Utensils – I have a handful of spatulas, a whisk, spoons, a greater, hand can opener, and peeler.
Knives – If you are going to spend some money, this is where I would tell you to do it. A good knife can last for years and years, and also makes the work in the kitchen easier. I have a great set from when I was cooking professionally that I got 8 years ago and they are still in great shape. You do not need an entire set, but if you are in the market I would tell you to buy a 8-10″ chef knife, a smaller utility knife, and a pairing knife. That should be a good start. Just remember to careful follow the care instructions that you are given and these knives will be yours for a long time.
Ladies and gentlemen, that is the whole of my kitchen supplies, and I think the more important thing to point out is that I have had these pots, pans, utensils for years. They are not top of the line items, more mid-grade things that I could afford over time. I do not want any of you to think you cannot make something because you do not have a $300.00 Le Crueset Dutch Oven that you got a WilliamsSonoma, it is just not true, yes a recipe might need modified, but it can be done.
If I could make some suggestions, here is where I would look for bargains on your cookware needs:
Outlet Stores / Discount Stores like TJ Maxx or Marshalls
Second-hand / Thrift Stores
I hope this helps to get all of you off on the right foot. Now get cooking!
